BIO

Born in Suffolk, UK, in 2000, Zara spent their early years in Berkshire. They recently completed a Bachelors in Fine Art at Plymouth College of Art and currently live and work in Wiltshire. However they are due to relocate to Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Zara works in a variety of different mediums but find themselves drawn to a physical practice of making art with their hands. From an early age, Zara’s passion for art flourished with inspiration drawn from art movements such as Neoclassicism, Romanticism and Baroque and more recently art movements like Young British Artists and Expressionism. Combining these different movements together creates a unique, emotive and allegorical narrative through their work.

The powerful and evocative subjects of trauma and vulnerability are central themes within their work. Using self-reflection as a tool builds a practice that provides insight into painful personal experiences. This process gives a voice to the silence that trauma imposes.

Zara views creativity as a key tool in processing the experience of human emotion and this was the theme of their final dissertation. Topics explored include the influence on dopamine on creative drive and how art is used by artists to deal with challenging mental states. Combining this with the current implications from COVID-19, Zara believes it is now a crucial time for people to reconnect with themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually. Believing that sharing life experience allows others to reflect on deep emotions safely, and demonstrates this through their own practice that art truly is therapy for all.

Zara was shortlisted for the Freelands Painting Prize 2021 and participated in multiple group exhibits within Plymouth College of Art. Exhibits include known/unknown focusing on themes relating to people, home, memory, connection and disconnection; No One Said Art Would Be This Hard which had a broad set of themes from political and environmental damage to body and space to satirical humour; and beautifully wasted which was a collaborative group project focusing on themes of climate change and the reuse of discarded recyclable materials.

Currently Zara seeks to build their artistic presence both digitally and physically through making work and showing it to the public using either social media or exhibits. They are accepting commissions, artist talks and any other work enquiries.
